This will be what I am currently saving and how I am doing it to be able to go on this adventure. I want to save about $20,000 or as close as possible. This 20k will be used for transportation and travel expenses while I am on my journey.
***Update: My goal is still $20,000 by the time I start traveling full time. I am in Korea now and working. My bank account is at $15,000 (after medical expenses for my surgery) and I should definitely have $20,000 by the time I leave Korea. If I complete my year long contract, there is quite a good chunk of money that will be coming my way.
Vaccines and gear I buy before I leave will not impact this number.
I have taken some steps to be able to reach my $20k goal.
- opened specific savings account just for the trip
- sold some personal belongings and still selling more
- picked up 2nd job serving and bartending (worked for 8 months)
- cut back on drinking and going out (a TON of savings potential)
- stopped adding to my 401k and stock options (5% for each one…)
- dropped the price of my house (hopefully sells soon…sold for $109,900 and I bought at $110,000)
I am currently at $15,000, (as of February 5, 2010)which will be changing all the time and I might not update that number as often as I should. So check other posts or maybe I will make a running tab to see where I am.
