Okay, so I have been SUPER busy with work and everything….but on Saturday I was able to attend my first (of eventually many) couchsurfing event. I drove down to Indianapolis with a guy I met through couch surfing for a Games Night. I brought like 5 games, because I have all of them and it was a VERY good first couch surfing event.
In total, there were 10 people who attended, including myself. The host, Daisy is from Belgium and is working in Indy for a year with a company and then will be going back to Belgium in Oct. 2010. She was a wealth of travel knowledge and everyone there was interesting and fun. I had a great time and ended up sleeping on Daisy’s floor. It was my first couch surfing night!!
Some of my friends think I am crazy just for meeting complete strangers and especially for staying at a random persons home, but I thought it was exciting. There wasn’t anything weird about it. I can’t wait to do it again!
In fact, Daisy told me about her adventures in Mexico and I decided that at the end of April I will fly into Cancun and have a little “test” trip for my world trip in a year. I will only bring my netbook, camera, a small backpack and a couple pairs of clothes. I will stay in hostels a couple nights and hopefully couch surf the rest. My cellphone will stay at home and I am not going to really have a plan other than to explore and have a good time.
I know, this doesn’t exactly coincide with my budget, but it will actually be rather cheap. Flights will be $250 and I have a $150 credit with AirTran, so it will set me back net $100. The hostels are $5-$10!!! Awesome! Hopefully I will be able to couch surf and be shown around the area instead of just the normal tourist activities.
I am going to do this the last week in April. I will take vacation from work and leave the day after the Mini Marathon…hopefully I will do well in my race and it will be a good start for my trip.
This small expedition will give me a little taste of what my world trip will be like….very small I know, but at least I will have a taste of what is to come. I have never done anything like it, so I will be sure and blog while I am there to express my feelings of what is going on.
Disney presentation is next Wednesday in L.A., so after that trip I will have some free time and not ALL work and late hours. Hopefully will start working seriously on my website and get it up and running. No offers on the house yet, but Spring is the selling season and Spring officially starts next week I think, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

All right, couchsurfing RULES! So glad you discovered it already! Don’t listen to your friends thinking you’re crazy – Ray thought I was too at first, but now he understands how AWESOME people can be when you’re not just unilaterally afraid of them.
[...] about my first CouchSurfing experience so I thought it was interesting that Chris recently had his first Surfing experience as well. Rock on [...]
