First time home…seller!

My house Yesterday, at 1 pm I went to my house closing.  It took about 2 hours or so, but I am now officially homeless….and it feels GREAT!!  Granted, my bank account is a little lighter, but I am now free (as in not tied down by the house).  So before I turned 25 I have bought and sold my first house.  I don’t think it’s a good line to have on my “life” resume, but I learned a valuable lesson.  I will NOT buy a house again until I KNOW I will be staying in the area.  I am thinking the next house I buy will be when I am 40 or 50, so I have some time to decide….

Freedom!!!

braveheartA quick list of perks to not having the house now:  no mortgage payment, no worries about fixing anything, can leave the area whenever I want, save money, only paying $300/month for everything, debt free, and I am “free”…

So, technically I can leave whenever I want right now.  About a week ago, I recieved my final Hepatitis A/B vaccination and am done with ALL the vaccinations I need.  The doctor prescribed some Malarone for me, but at $2.50 each (and you take one a day) I decided against it.  Nomadic Matt doesn’t use Malaria pills….so why should I?  Haha!  If I do get Malaria, I will be fuckin’ pissed!

I have about $11,000 after the closing on my house and everything and am debt free.  I could go on kayak.com right now and purchase a ticket for August 1st and it would be perfectly okay.  Now is the time I REALLY need to save some money.  I am still working at the bar, but not as much as before.  I was getting burnt out and I work hard enough at my regular job to burn myself out.

I should have more time to work on the website.  I know it still looks like shit, but eventually it will be decent.  I have been reading up on HTML and what not, so give it some time.

Congrats on selling the house. I can imagine what a big weight off your chest that was. It’s a great starting point for your adventures. Couldn’t agree with you more about not buying a house until settling ;-)

Have you looked in to doxycycline or mefloquine as anti-malarials? We opted for mefloquine at 3 bux a pill (ala Costco) and it covers you for a week (7-9 days). It also has the ‘awesome’ side effect of giving you some crazy, weird ass dreams.

Congrats on the sale of your house – that must be a big relief with the nosedive the market took. Ray and I are definitely glad the only freedom we’ve been waiting for was from the job once we’d hit our release date! Now that I’ve returned to my life of “no financial security” it’s amazing how much richer I feel. You understand. Stay in touch and keep following the blog – we’ll help you get through the next 7 months! Way to go, mad props to you buddy and nice to meet ya!

Congrats Chris! I agree with Nomadic Matt, being debt free is one of the greatest feelings. You are not just debt free, you are completely free. You can pick up and leave whenever you want, and stop wherever you choose for a day or a month or a year. It must be a very exciting time for you.

Wow – exciting!!! It is nice to hear not everyone is about buying a house. I’ve yet to own one, and certainly have no regrets about sticking with apartments. Like you, I doubt I’ll have the desire to buy a house until I’m much older.

If only I thought like you BEFORE I bought a house….I would have been better off. Live and learn I guess though.
