I like to think I am a rather healthy and “in shape” guy.  I am approximately 6′ 1.5″ tall and weigh 185lbs.  I run, lift and workout in general as often as possible.

I am trying to stay healthy and in good shape before my trip because I am thinking I might not get all the vitamins and nutrients I am use to getting when I am in other countries.  UPDATE…I think I will be fine while in Korea.  Will continue to workout and remain healthy.  I don’t want to be the stereotypical overweight American while there, right?!?!

While at the travel clinic, getting my vaccinations (and a lecture basically) for traveling abroad, the nurse told me what rules I need to follow.  Here is a list of DO NOTs I remember:

  • drink any water but bottled
  • wash fruit with tap water
  • eat food from small, local restaurants
  • eat from food stand vendors
  • swim in fresh water

This was just the few rules which stuck in my head.  There is also a pack list (of just medical and mosquito stuff) which would be more than I am planning on packing for the entire trip.

I told the attractive nurse that a big reason I was going on this trip was to be a part of the culture of where ever I was visiting, which also includes eating ALL of their food.  Also, I do not buy bottled water now because I am so cheap, why the HELL would I buy bottled water when I am traveling and trying to stretch my dollar as far as I can?  I am sure I will get some stomach sickness, but I will be gone long enough that I will be able to get sick and then get over it….I’m not worried.

VACCINES

  • Hep A&B (2nd round of 3)            3 shots good for life
  • Typhoid                                               4 pills which will cover me for 5 years
  • Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis      1 shot good for life
  • Polio                                                       1 shot
  • Meningitis                                            1 shot
  • Flu Shot                                                 1 shot just for the hell of it

These are the vaccines I got so far.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

I will get some basic travel insurance so if I were to become deathly ill or badly injured, then I can be transported back to the US…and also if I die then my body will be brought back to the US…haha that wouldn’t be very good.

**My school in Korea will pay for half of my travel insurance while I am working in Korea.
