Things that go boom
Well, I didn’t have a crazy weekend or anything, just the average/typical weekend in which I worked and what not. BUT!!! My roommates had people over for the firework festivities. I worked that night, but got off at about 10 pm because no one came to the bar (who the fuck goes to a bar on the fourth anyways?!). I came home to a few people and some kids…everyone was having a good time, drinking (except for the kids….actually who knows!) and lighting off fireworks.
Don’t get me wrong, I love fire and I love blowing shit up! Spending gobs of money on fireworks boggles my mind though. It really is like burning money, or blowing it up actually. I saw some drunk dudes a block or two from where I am living in the park. I walked over with a few people from the house and discovered a HUGE collection of dead mortar tubes, wrappers, boxes…you name it and they had the firework or already blew it up.
While I was over there, I asked how much they spent and their answer almost made me vomit. between the 5 of them, they spent over 2200 bucks!!! What the fuck!? And you could tell these were not the well educated rich folk with a 6 figure job. How the hell can one justify to themselves it is okay to spend that kind of money and then blow it all up? That kind of money could support me for 2 months abroad!!! And they spent it and blew it up all in one night! Shit, I would rather get a 2200 dollar hooker instead…then there would be some real fireworks! hahahahaha…but for real, 2200 on fireworks for one night, INSANE!!
Just thought it was crazy…and stupid.
I have been applying to some ESL jobs online and I also have an update on my “Living Uncomfortably”. Those two updates will come shortly….

LOL – you sound EXACTLY like us!! It’s hard to imagine that the rest of the world or even your friends and family don’t see EVERY potential expenditure as “this could buy me 50 nights in a beach hut in Thailand”.
